Rules of Play | Spring 2025
Dir. Doria Charlson
For Rules of Play, a student-directed dance performance, I collaborated with three choreographers to design costumes that reflected the unique needs of each piece. This project required close coordination with lighting designers, choreographers, and fellow costume designers to maintain a cohesive artistic vision. My role included research, creating design mock-ups, budgeting and sourcing materials, and overseeing the build process. I also participated in technical meetings, attended fittings, rehearsals, and dress rehearsals to ensure the designs worked seamlessly for movement and performance.
On the night before opening, a dancer had to be replaced across all three of my choreographers’ pieces. With almost no time, I created last-minute costume solutions for three new performers, ensuring they fit the design vision while remaining functional for the stage. This experience highlighted my ability to stay calm under pressure and adapt quickly while still delivering cohesive designs.
Garment Construction | Winter/Spring 2025
Drawing on ~220 hours of experience in the UC Davis Theater and Dance Costume Lab, I designed and constructed my own graduation ceremony outfit during winter and spring 2025. Inspired by textures and geometric silhouettes, I developed a custom sloper and built a three-piece look consisting of tailored trousers and an abstract pleated skirt layered with a fitted top. This project allowed me to apply my sewing and construction skills to a personal design from concept through final garment.
Smooth Criminal | Winter 2024
Dir. Dahlak Brathwaite
As Stage Manager, I led rehearsal scheduling, managed cast and crew logistics, and coordinated with design teams to keep daily operations running smoothly. I created and maintained all stage management paperwork, including a detailed prompt book, to track cues, notes, and production needs. I served as the communication bridge between creative and technical departments, ensuring everyone was aligned for rehearsals and event-day execution. In a fast-paced, high-pressure environment, I problem-solved live issues quickly and kept the production on schedule, supporting both the director’s vision and the performers’ work on stage.
